Ordering epoxy glassing materials (SoCal)

I’m ready to order materials so I can start glassing. Three finished blanks are waiting.

Surfing in Solana Beach, I met a guy in the water who told me about Graphite Master up in LA. Their prices seem really good. I’m thinking about buying a bolt of 6oz e-cloth, as well as 3gal of RR epoxy resin.

Does this seem like a reasonable quantity? How long will the unused resin last in my garage?

Thanks.

3 gallons seems like a bit much for me, but it depends on how many boards you make, how much you use per board, and whether or not you share with friends.  I make 3-4 per year, plus ding repairs and an occasional restore, and I buy about a gallon at a time.  Since you already have three blanks ready, then it might be right for you.

If you are going to be glassing steady, be sure to form good safety habits, don't get the resin on your skin, don't use solvents to clean your skin, and don't get the sanding dust on your skin if the resin is freshly dried but not fully cured.  Wear a respirator around any sanding dust.

Have fun and post pics.

Thanks. Maybe I’ll buy 1.5gal instead–glass one at a time, maybe over a longer time period.

What area are you in?

I just did an 8’0" HWS with a light glass schedule:

1 x 4 oz S Glass bottom and 2 x 4 oz S glass deck.

I used 18 oz (epoxy + hardner) bottom and 24 oz (epoxy + hardner) and then 9 oz both deck and bottom for the fill coat.  This is a total of 60 oz.  Just under 1/2 a gallon.  Three gallons of resin + hardner would easily get you 6 boards…

NOTE: I use wayyy more resin than I need to - I always end up with a hot cup and a lot of resin on the tarp I setup.

I’m in North Orange County, near Fullerton.

Right on, Right near us… I would hit up Fiberglass Source in Gardena.  they have great pricing. Unless graphite master has smaller rolls. A roll of cloth is going to last you a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOng time.

Can you PM me some prices?

San Diego County is a Hot Bed of Swaylock's underground backyard board builders. Short drive to Fullerton...really...Update your user profile....Herb and Ken live right up the street from you....I split 3 gallon kits of Resin Research with people all the time. People I meet on Swaylocks.... I don't need Resin today or I would work with you.....

I'm suprised Huck does not get into the action...but he would have to make deals past the ORANGE Curtain.....and face the fact that Huck uses at leat 3 gallons of resin per year......don't tell my wife I use that much resin!!!!  :)

and cloth...well..the best price is when you but a full roll...125 yards....did you check E-bay....fun times ...
