Original Hobie fin box?

 

I came across a board yesterday that had no visible logo. The nose and tail appear to have a ton of slipcheck, so the lam might be buried underneath.

It has the same fin box that Hobie used in his first removable system. Butterfly shaped box with bolt through deck. Typically, the original fin is long lost, and someone glued an FU type fin into the box.

What I’m wondering is, was this box type only used on Hobie’s, or did other labels/shapers install the very same system during the period?

Pics are from a 1966 Hobie ad, and a shot of another board that a friend owns. His board is definitely a Hobie.

We called it the Dog Bone Box.   Used only on Hobie boards.

 

That’s what I thought.

I figured that you, Phillips, or Balsa would know.

I’d never seen that box on anything but a Hobie.
