**Let’s talk about Kelly Slater for a minute. Is he at risk of
becoming like Brett Favre – tarnishing his legacy by staying in the
competition spotlight for too long?
**I don’t know and I
don’t care. I just hate how he says he’s not doing the tour and then he
does the whole year. Obviously, he loves the spotlight, but to me I
don’t care what he does.
**His board experimentation is
clearly having an effect on design on and off the Tour. Have you made
any changes to your quiver based on his ideas? **
He’s only
riding fishes because he can’t get a good shortboard. That’s why I left
Channel Islands. Like I said though, none of this is affecting me. I’m
just going to go out in 2010 and do my best.
i thought this was pretty funny, but maybe also the reasonwhy he aint had sponsors for a while?
yah i read that... thought it was pretty funny. OBVIOUSLY, that's Kelly's problem he just can't get a good shortboard, if he could, maybe he'd win some contests like Bobby... i'm not a CI fan at all, i am a fan of BM's surfing but, BM sounds like an idiot for saying that.
From everyone I know who has met Bobby says he is the nicest guy. Any time I walk into a surfshop I examine all the high performance boards and all the classic logs. I have not seen a CI that I have like in about 5 years. One of the best boards I ever rode was a CI Eagle’s Wing from around 2001, so it is not a distaste for his shaping. I have seen good DHD’s Chili’s JS’s and other brands but most of the CI’s are either for big boys(+215lbs) or kooks. I heard that all his boards for the Trestle’s contest last year were from a former CI ghost shaper, J7. CI has such a huge stable currently that there is no way Al can be involved as in depth as he needs to be with his individual team members.
