loco, no?

Yeah, that seems like kind of a bad idea.

Yeah, I’d have to agree with the above. Not the smartest idea in the whole world.

Is it my imagination, or does the shark appear lethargic, especially for a relatively small specimen (~6-8’)? I’d also like to know what the object is in the diver’s hand (usually the right) in nearly all the shots with which he periodically jabs at the shark. Is it possible to drug or otherwise partially anesthetize C. Carcharias?

i couldnt understand why it kept comming back

it really looked like it was playing

especially when it opened its mouth out of the water

looked like a big cheezy jabba jaws smile

I was thinking that guy had figured out the body language thing to keep the shark from going into tasting mode. The thing is a spear to stab the old boy if psychology ceases working, I think/hope.

it looks like the guy may be using some sort of pheremone or some type of repellant (maybe the camo suit) but the shark is just not interested…it looks like he was down there for a good amount of time too…my motto would be “if at first it doesn’t strike, get the hell out of there”

That guy should be arrested… for his own good as well as the shark!

It seems to be an inquisitive shark, curious by nature, a juvenile. Typical behavior to “size-up” an unknown intruder, swimming alongside, they will do this amongst themselves also. Often this is reported as “circling” before an incident. The showing of the white undersides is often done when they size each other up…

By grabbing the snout, the diver appears to be squeezing the ampullae de lorenzini, causing the shark to go numb, these are extremely sensitive organs and his actions could well put the shark in a semi-paralyzed state. These animals could typically “circle” around for a few minutes “sizing” you up before deciding to take an exploratory nibble (their taste buds are next to their array of teeth…) a 10 foot longboard is good… they have excellent eyesight and see things in high contrast. This type of trick is best not tried with multiple sharks, they are very competitive and may strike if they fear they must compete with other sharks to get a bite, actually this sort behavior should not be condoned, stay the heck away from these animals… would wave your arm at a hungry lion??

chumming is a crime… it associates humans with yum yum…

“smile, your on camera!”

never thought i would say this but after a while i wanted the shark to bite the cocky bastard on the bum .Leave it alone ,its not a toy.

cheers

Kind of along the same lines as this. Everyones going ooh ah, bonding, ect. until…

Timothy Treadwell (Grizzly Man) got along with dangerous beasts too… for awhile.

Couldn’t agree more…

“It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature!”

Any jerk that tries to approach any wild being as some sort of equal and/or pet deserves all the worst that can come to them. Death if necessary…if that is what it takes to shut down their inflated sense of “COOL”…

This applies doubly to the greedy that insist on caging - whether behind bars or in tanks - wild beings. I can only chuckle when people are attacked by enslaved dolphins or killer whales…What the hell do you expect? You’ve imprisoned a free being and, basically, tortured it into submission…and you wonder why, when it turns on its torturer…

If they’re hurt in the wild and "humans " find them…fine…do your best to rehabilitate and set them free…otherwise it should be “Hands Off” at all times…

I hate aquariums…can’t you tell. Almost as bad as “Disney Wierd”…take your kids to Hawaii or Costa Rica if you want to treat them…

Pete

Exactly.

i was thinkin, naw , make that hoping, the shark was instilling a false sense of security in the diver thereby being able to lure him out further from the boat where his mom or dad could have had their turn with the diver…

soooo, if the shark attacked, would the diver

shoot the shark with the speargun out of

“self defense”?

i agree with most of the above. leave it alone.
