My one and a half year old daughter called Ida was diagnosed with leukemia on friday the 24th of march. Although the prognosis are cosidered ‘good’, it’s about the same odds as you get with a round of russian rulett. And as the doctors say, the prognosis is only statistics. There is no getting 83% well, for each individual it’s only one way or the other. Our little girl and we have a long road ahead of us with 2 years of more or less constant chemotheraphy, high infection risk, countless blood transfers. Regardless of how this ends we’re greatful for every day we have with our little girl. And as a sure sign that life goes on, another little girl is growing inside my wife tummy expected to arrive late this summer.
For those of you who believe in God, remember us in your prayers. For those of you who don’t, catch a wave for us. And remember to count your blessings.
I’m kind of checking out of swaylocks for a while.
Be hopefull. I have a 14 y/o nephew that got lukemia a couple of years ago. After two episodes and much treatment, he is doing great. I wish you the best.
We had some first hand experience in my family. Don’t get too pesimistic. The medical treatment is getting much better and you should remain hopeful. 15 years ago, you would not have had much reason to be hopeful. Also, the prognosis is better with younger kids. I will pray for your family. We’ll miss you here. Check in once in a while, please. Keep us posted.
VERY sorry to hear of the sad news Haavard! We’ll miss you dearly. As was said earlier…PLEASE CHECK IN and let us know how she’s doing. YOu know ALL of our prayers are with you.
Haavard, I’ll prey for you AND catch as many as I can for you.
If you’ll be looking for assistance outside Norway, I know the hospital in my hometown (Monza, Italy) is at the forefront in Leukemia treatment and research, and they have surprisingly optimistic records in that field.
Wow… and I thought it hurt my heart when Herb or Cleanlines took ill.
Haarvard, my thoughts and prayers are there for you each day. Be sure to take good care of yourself as well. Please do check in when you need a breath of surf design talk or just to update the community.
this weird saying popped into my head last night infront of the computer as I sat a little teary eyed thinking of my cousin who was wiped out monday in a car accident driving her son to school.
I will keep your family in my heart and prayers.i hope it all works out.i know surfing is probally the last thing on your mind right now,but remember to take care of yourself also.the water is a great place to hide your tears when you need too.Give Ida a big kiss and hug for all of us.

Bye for now,

Håvard N. Jakobsen – I just came back from a truly great day of surfing here. The sun returned (finally), the spring winds laid down, and the waves were beautiful. Checking in and reading your post took the wind out of my sails. I will put all of my affirming good thoughts towards your daughter, your family, and you. These good and beautiful waves wrap around our earth to your shores. We’re here for you when you need a hand. God bless, Håvard
