outline...noserider plus vertical surfing

a scaled-down version of a board in the 7’6-8’ size range I saw at the beach a while back, and mentioned in a thread somewhere.

As I still haven’t caught up with the guy who owns it [to photograph it ] , here’s my [freehand drawing] ‘rendition’ …

Chippy,

I am most impressed with the high level of symmetry in your draughtsmanship.

Kinda looks like a stretched out Aipa Stinger.

How did it look lik eit rode?

just what i was thinking

It also looks like a shrunk-down version of Aipa’s big boy Stinger, which is 10’ 2".

Very loose tail. If you make one don’t put too much tail rocker in. The sudden reduction in tail width gives the water a lot of release in that area. The Stingers I’ve seen have sharp rails in the back 1/3, with some V in the tail. Slight double concave through that section.

His big boy stingers have a slight V in the middle of the board too. I built one with that outline, but made the middle with a concave hydro hull bottom. It turns better when you’re in trim than the V. Doug

Hey Chippy

Here’s a 6’6" Brewer Reto-Stinger-Fish that does exactly that…

Nose rides and carves vertically… Single to double through tail lile a quad…

I’m using the Futures Vector 467 3/2 with hatchet rear on it and it’s a blast especially in high tidish conditions… It’s my high tide board…

It’s the one on the right… The one one the left is a Terry Chung “Fat Girl”(Alekai Kinimaka’s old board, still has his logo)

Yup now that’s the way to do a full soft rail…3" to the edge floats like an 8’0"

One,

Any chance you have a side rocker photo or dimensions of that Brewer fish?

[a French bloke on the www.shaperoom.net site was thinking of making a 6’3 one, so this drawing has ended up THERE, also ! ]

Hey Chipper, cool outline… here is picture of a board that I made,it’s kind of similar to your design, but not as drastically narrowed up from the tail… Sparky is a 6’8" Twinzer and my favorite board to ride in waves under head high, it go’s vertical and I can get nose rides out of it. It’s probably the funnest board I have ever made and ride… I made it to be ride like a shortboard off tail and ride like a longboard up front. it does everthing I intended it to… Can’t wait to see your’s when it’s completed.

Go mow some foam!

here’s the only one I have…

It’s more of an angle than a full on side

Check Brewer’s (not the Plumeria one) site he has more info…

Nice looking, however I’m not shore about it noseriding. but it would be a blast at fairybower with a BIG but high tide day.

thanks guys for your feedback …very interesting !

I deliberately didn’t put any dimensions on my drawing.

I’m thinking it’s the sort of board that could be a fairly wide range of lengths, widths, rockers, bottoms , and fin configuration.

So it was nice to hear people’s thoughts and feedback…

cheers !!

p.s. - ‘Shippy’ , with hicksy’s 9’ gun in the shed, I did some fins instead over the last day and a bit…just mucking around with sussing out how to cant the runners I already have, and then mould the bases for the fin box fit… fun to get back to doing some fins again.

Grant’s 9’er looks NIIICE…next time I’ll remember to get some photos !!

[his dog ‘Rex’ was stoked to have me there , as usual…sat at my feet all the time while the fibreglass was showering down !]
