I know it is your web site but… Why put all those classified ads on the discusion page. It really is a pain to have your commercials peppering us. Are we on a choke chain. Thanks, but no thanks.

If I were selling something and desired exposure, I would love this new addition to the site. It’s not unlike a front page ad in the newspaper classifieds. I’d bet those looking for that certain something like it as well, not having to search the classifieds looking for some new addition each day. For those who aren’t real fond of the new feature, two clicks of the mouse, or a quick click and drag and they’re gone. Aloha, OL

Hmm…I think I’m finding myself browsing the ads more than before. If I had something to sell to a target audience like Swaylock’s, what better place to do it. Keep in mind, Mike’s not exactly getting rich off all the work he has graciously put into this outstanding site. Sooner or later there has to be a pay back. You don’t want to take the time to use the scroll bar or wheel on your mouse? Do you have a clue just how much time goes into keeping Swaylock’s up and running 24/7 ? Just my humble opinion. TS>>> I know it is your web site but… Why put all those classified ads on the > discusion page. It really is a pain to have your commercials peppering us. > Are we on a choke chain. having some classifieds in the discussion header space doesn’t bother me, but the post got me to thinking…how about when a new surfboard is submitted into the ‘boards’ page, you give it a day (or half a day) of ‘featured’ time in the discussion header space? it could make for some interesting, and enlightening discussion. i sure don’t want to add too much extra work for mike, though. but if it isn’t a complicated deal?..

The ads are OK by me. If you think ads are overkill, living in America must be a drag. But, in America, the clash of ideas is the sound of freedom – so you have a right to your opinon too. Shine

I agree with Tom and OL. I don’t mind perusing a few “cover page” ads. Remember, Swaylocks is not a capitalist pig site and he’s not some wheeler dealer. And I’m sure Sway will keep the number of ads to a minimum. He was even considerate enough to ask our opinions about the additions in a previous thread (check the archives). This is an honorable site run by a great guy, and you have nothing to fear. No corporate pollution here. So click back, relax and enjoy the water. [smile]>

Sorry about all the ads Carlos. I think this website has an awesome setup and I hope that the classifieds section can become as lively and active as the discussion and boards sections. I know that I’ve posted a bunch of ads lately and I appologize if I’ve offended you in any way. I really don’t want to disturb the cool vibe of our little community that we got going here. If anyone else is as bothered as Carlos, please let me know. I’m more than willing to limit the number of ads I post or remove them all together. Thanks again and keep up the great work Swaylock!

The ads don’t bother me and I too find myself browsing them more often. The board of the day is a cool idea too. Scott W.>>> Sorry about all the ads Carlos. I know it is your web site but… Why put all those classified ads on the > discusion page. It really is a pain to have your commercials peppering us. Carlos, I truly am sorry they bother you – I like all my readers to be happy – so here are some facts that may make you cool down: 1.THEY ARE NOT IN FACT “MY” ADS. rather they are “your” ads. I have never placed a single classifed ad. 2. I DON"T MAKE A CENT OFF SWAYLOCK’s. Some day maybe. But right now it is a LABOR of love. Anything I can do to increase reader and usership I will do. About six months ago - I set up the classifieds section and they we not being used. I thought that headlines would be a great way to increase reader/usership and I was correct. Both have increased dramatically. Given that. and given the majority of comments in this thread, the headlines are going nowhere. And anyone who has any hesitation about posting…post as many classifieds as you want. 3. I CAN ADJUST THE TIME PERIOD OF “LATEST ADS.” I can set the number of days new ads will be shown at the top of the forum. Right now it is set to 4 days. (Carlos, according to my server you made your post at 8:06 am and at that time there were like 7 or 8 “new” ads. I have my server set to purge twice a day – once at 11:00am – and if you look at the forum now you’ll only see four ads. If things get too clogged up there, like I said in an earlier post (thanks deeb) I will cut down the purge period. ) 4. Regarding the suggestions for the latest boards having a place at the top of the forum. That is something I have been strategizing over the last few months. I want to automate that function like the healines funtion but it’s way more difficult. Without getting too technical (and any perl/linux guru/monks can chime in here) the board forum resides on a different server than the discussion forum. Security wise that makes it difficult to publish html from one site directly to another site. With all of that said…let get back to dealing with surfboards! Swaylock P.S. All of you design theorists out there…be on the lookout for some sweet (!!!) finless surfboard diagrams and text from the raftman D.Solomonson.

Swaylock - You already know via my personal E-Mail to you what I think of this site. I’m sure the numerous regular posters agree with me that there is nothing like it on the net. Surfline tried and didn’t come close. I believe I found out about this site from a mention on (the raftman)Dale Solomonson’s site. Now THAT guy is on to some interesting uh… stuff! Making the first custom mat for George Greenough? How about his unique twin keel concave reverse rockered body board with strakes in the nose? Can’t wait for his newest - bring it on! And Swaylock… THANKS!!!>>> Carlos, I truly am sorry they bother you – I like all my readers to be > happy – so here are some facts that may make you cool down:>>> 1.THEY ARE NOT IN FACT “MY” ADS. rather they are > “your” ads. Solomonson’s Site (neumaticsurfcraft)… wasn’t where I heard about Swaylock’s but it was definitely a mention by Solomonson that turned me on to it. Maybe Rod’s surf page? (another awesome site)>>> Swaylock - You already know via my personal E-Mail to you what I think of > this site. Not to be a ditto head but…whatever Mike wants, Mike should get! This is an awesome site and all you have to do to prove that to yourself is check out some other so-called surf forums. But watch out for the mud and the blood and the beer, 'cause you won’t find a lot of useful info like there is here!

You put your classifieds on your home page, then on the discussion, and again in the classifieds. I guess the need to know if someone is selling a joel tuder fin is critical. I have some land in Barstow for sale. Your doing a great service, and it’s fun. I’d just thought I’d give you my opinion for better design. It’s your call , go for it…

Carlos, I truly am sorry they bother you – I like all my readers to be > happy – so here are some facts that may make you cool down: Carlos, I have recently found the light in my search for information on surfboard design thanks to a link that brought me to Swaylocks. I have been surfing for twenty-two years in SoCal and have never found anything that even comes close to approximating what Mike has developed here. This is truly an outstanding site and public service. I also recently posted an add to help a friend in need who is having financial difficulties. I posted the ad in the classified section of Swaylocks, was never asked for any form of compensation nor told that a cut would be taken off of any sale made. It was done in the same spirit that the discussion page is done; to help others. Mike isn’t making a red cent off of the classified I posted and if I ever meet the guy I will be sure to throw as many beers down his throat as he can handle. This is a great site with some great contributers. Enjoy it.

Hey Nib, I didn’t know you were a poet! Thanks to you and Herb Spitzer I have a sweet looking 6’10" swallow tail fun shape ready to glass! Thanks for all your help!! Scott W. “But watch out for the mud and the blood and the beer, 'cause you won’t find a lot of useful info like there is here!”

I didn’t see that until after I wrote it though so I can’t really take creative credit for it. But I am totally stoked you got your 6’10" and it’s almost ready to surf. All I got to say is, “Sur4evr!!!”

Tony don’t let one whiner brother ya, I really like the fin I got off you and that wouldn’t of happened without the ads. So if he hasn’t learned to scroll down yet, maybe it is time he did. http://www.surfsource.net
