I surf pleasure point, Santa Cruz on a Michel Junod log shaped for me that I love, my only board: 10’2", 3 1/2" thick, single-fin. I am 6’, 175". I am out at 2nd peak a lot these days surfing overhead waves to 10 feet. My board holds the face fairly well because the rails are sharper near the tail, but in the slightest texture the ride is pretty bumpy. Too much float, I think.
I think I want a shorter (9’6"?), flatter rocker, thinner, singlefin board. I want a wave catcher still. But what kind of tail? What kind of rails? What shape and size do you suggest? Thanks for the help.

go talk to Michel Junod, nobody has that place more wired.
I used to live across the street from Pleasure Point, and have surfed it at all sizes up to about 3x OH. That’s such a mushy and predictable wave, you can get away surfing anything. You don’t need anything gun-like ever.
I weigh about 185. My favoritve board there is a 9’2" Brewer performance longboard… finished shaped by Michel Junod.
Go shorter and thinner. You don’t need anything more than 3" thick. A heavy glass job will help you plow through chop. My preference is flatter nose rocker - easy paddling and faster down the line, with a bit of kick in the tail - easier faster turns, hard rails in the tail - bite, rounded square tail - harder turns, or a round pin if you like more graceful lines…
My boards are set up as 2+1s but I’ve been running 7" cutaway singles. I like the lines the single fins draw. Add the sidebites if you want more square turns and like to smack the lip.
