'P-Co's " old mal " restoration

I came into this , halfway through.

Ross , from longboards scarborough here in perth W.A. [ aka 'P-Co' , here at sways ] ,

had an old 1960s mal [ yes , a " D fin " model ! ] which was looking a bit the worse for wear , but had a fairly 'racy' [for want of a better word] outline .

So, he and fellow shop worker Nathan stripped off the glass one day , and Ross smoothed it down .

Wanting to keep it as true to the original as possible , he saved the logo ,

and scanned it, and made a new ricepaper one [or two !]

He then glassed it , which was when I came upon it .... these are the photos of it , so far ...

bottom... [he is re-doing red panels , to match the original 'D fin's colour]

the deck will also get a red panel , on the same side of the board as it is on the bottom [?that make sense?  .... ie : " right hand side , top and bottom of board " ]

With a gloss and polish , this board should come up well, I reckon !

I , personally , like how it is true to the original , in terms of still being slightly 'browned' , rather than a completely NEW board !

So, happy birthday for last week , Ross / 'P-Co' ! ....I guess this project can double as your present to yourself too , eh ?

When it is finished , and launched , I will be  keen to get some shots of it being surfed [?maybe you , nathan , matt , ....?me , even?? [....please , sir ?! ]

...I will wear my helmet , whilst 'go pro'ing , never fear !  :)  haha  "ouch !  concussion  ...."

Thanks Ben.
I originally took a heap of pics and was going to post the whole process here. As there were so many of the first stage I thought I would plug the iPad into the mac to download. It then went into some sync mode and I think I have lost them all. I then just proceeded without photographing. Thanks to the chipster for taking these.
I decided to reno this board as the whole back had delaminated and was unridable and not worthy of just hanging in the pool room so to speak. I am not a fan of restorations where the whole board in pigmented to cover the discoloured or damaged foam, so for this one after I stripped the glass I took off a millimetre or two to even the surface and clean it up a bit. I filled a couple of dings with coloured q-cell but don’t intend on painting over these as they are just evidence of its history.
I am in the process of putting the pigmented panels on the deck and bottom back where they originally were. Only change is I’m going for red to match the fin rather than the original orange.
I will keep you all posted if you like and on the off chance I can find the pics from the iPad I will put them up.
Cheers,
Ross

....and , hopefully , we can locate at least one shot in your collection , of what it previously looked like , before it was stripped and reglassed , Ross ?

As I say , I'd be keen to get some shots / ? footage? of it being RIDDEN ,  once finished ?

 ....to be continued ? ....

  cheers !
