Bill Moore was one of the originals at 'Bu; he passed away after a long illness last December at age 90.
He started surfing Malibu in 1933, his wife Irene (she’ll be there Saturday) recalls crawling under the fence of the Rindge Ranch in order to get down to the point back in the mid and late 30’s. He surfed with the better known legends like Kilvin and Simmons and was actively in the water until back surgery in 1988. I surfed with him as late as 2004/2005 and saw him on the beach in a wheelchair back in October. What a great role model for all of us who surf; I can only imagine the stoke that comes from over 70 years of surfing.
A lot of the old crew will be there to pay respects- it may be one of your last chances to see them all together. I know Gary Stellern, Mysto George Carr, Gidget and the remainder of that crew will be in attendance as well as former and current Malibu Surfing Association members and any of the surfers who knew Bill in his 70+ years of surfing 'Bu. It should be a time of good fellowship and fond memories.
All are invited, the gathering starts at 12 noon and the paddle out will probably be around 12:30. Parking will be an issue as warm as it has been so if you are coming, get there early.
