Some here may know Miles Walsh. He was a long time north Shore resident. In resent years ran a Surf Lodge in Nicaragua About a week ago he had a heart attack while surfing. Nobody at first noticed he had slipped off his board by the time they got to him it was to late.
His daughter is arranging a paddle out for Miles at Half Moon Bay on August 11, 2013. The meet up will be at The Mavericks event center at 2PM If anybody out there knew Miles this will be a good send off for someone who had a life time of Stoke.
I met Miles in Panama in 2000. He was down with Scott ??? from In the Eye Surfboards in Cape Hattrass and Captian Bob Howland (?). Good guy, good surfer.
We were thinking of going down to his resort in Nica in October. He will be missed.
From What I have heard he was still ripping and riding short Boards when he past. I truley wished I could have made it down to his place. We want to The Same High School and Started our surf careers on Long Beach Island, NJ.
I’m pretty sure my now wife Colleen had a crush on him in High School.
My family and I had the fortune of spending a week with Miles at his house in Nica, last July, with Miles playing host and surf guide. My now 14 yr old son had researched and chosen this destination in liue of a Bar Mitzvah party.
Miles thought it was best place in the world to surf. Our week with Miles continues to resonate so strongly in our surf lives, and our daily lives that when I shared Miles’ passing I was sure to share how much he continues to live in us.
His clear love for life, (which showed in his surfing !!! and life) which he was so eager to share; as well as all the secrets he had learned along the way (surfing and life) made him much more than our guide and host. Hero. Legend…
Hollis and (I) won’t be able to make it to the paddleout. We will paddle-out on Sunday morning at 10a, in Long Beach NY at Neptune, in Miles honor. All are welcome.
This is a pic of Hollis, Miles took. It may be my son’s favorite day !!!

If you get the chance pleasee post this on His face book page I am sure his daughter would love to read how much you and your family enjoyed meeting Miles. He did have that fire of Stoke burning deep.
Hollis You are one cool grom for choosing a surf trip over a Party. We need more young men like you in the line up.
:). Unfortunately Miles and I never hooked up on Facebook - I’m not computer savy like Miles clearly was. I did send his daughter a similiar email, but I wanted to say you certainly have my permission to share.
Did you ever have the fortune of getting to hear Miles eclectic music tastes. So fun to hear Cali rap, like Coolio followed by Ry Cooder, to some soul boogaloo …
I travelled from Australia to surf with Miles and Tom in the week before his passing. It was a huge shock to hear what hapened. I can assure you that Miles was still charging till the end (see attached photo), including a 10ft day at Popoyo during my visit. He left a lasting impression on my wife and I. R.I.P. mate.
