paint bleeding

Hi.

I’ve just completed a spray job on an 8’0" mal. It’s red with two white foam stripes either side of the stringer. I did not spray the underside of the board.

I did a real nice job with the white stripes and there is a real clean line between red and white.

Am gonna be glassing it in the next day or so. with a layer of 4 oz and 6oz. I’m concerned that when Isqueeze down on the cloth some of the acrylic paint will disolve into the resin and bleed into the white stipes.

I was considering laming the deck with the 4 oz first and only very lightly squeegie the cloth and then when it has goon off I’ll Lam on the 6 oz and squeegie it hard.

Any other suggestions to prevent bleening

Maybe a coat of clear???

Hi Brian,

Try some clear acrylic lacquer on top. The only reason red will bleed is if you have mixed the red paint with water. I use thinners when spraying acrylic to stop this. Do some tests on a spare piece of foam to make sure the thinners used are compatable. Red seems very susceptible to bleed when only water is used. Also used good quality paint.

Good luck…post some pics when you have finished. I’m sure all will be cool!
