PAINTING ON FOAM USING 233 TAPE

OK, I watched airbrush 101, very vague! there has got to be a way of taping ‘over’ painted surfaces without 'removing’some of the paint underneath, such as, when painting a solid color then adding a tape line next ‘to it’ over paint for pinstriping it? Do you heat the tape while removing it? or use less sticky tape over paint? Is paint touchup pretty common? How do you spray red or black as to guarantee no crystalization after glassing? I can spray, but ready to do more advanced designs but hate the f-ups if you know what I mean. Thanks in advance!!

…Their is several tricks, the best is to lightly, and I mean lightly coat the painted areas with acrylic spray, let dry,and apply the overlapping tape. After you paint your other colors, when removing the tape, use a heat gun.Herb

Thank you. Got some Krylon. To make a clean foam pinline the tape has to be pressed down real well, but my last one just pulled up all kind of paint I thought was dry with a hairdryer. What a disappointment everything was going well until the tape removal.

krylon Acrilic spray…what’s wrong with that?

Have you tried using clear contact paper for your stencils? Peel & stick - works fine for light sprays and if you let your first coat dry, doesn’t pull much paint off. If you cover your first coat completely with the contact paper, any color that lifts comes off evenly so you can’t even tell.

…Kylon has petroleum products in it.In short it will cause problems with your glass jobs, like pinair, pocking, uneven curing in hot/gloss coats, airbubbles, bleeding, delamination.Need I say more.Herb

any ideas Herb? can you buy a cheap acrylic spray to shoot using an airbrush?

Howzit Herb, I was making a materials order from Fiberglas Hi. yesterday and they informed me that 3M was phasing out 233 tape and replacing it with the new green 233 tape. I just hope this isn’t one of those times where the supposedly new better product is actually worse.Aloha, Kokua

…Yeah Kokua,I hear you.New and Improved! Doesnot necessarily mean better!I’ll have to give it a try.My auto paint supplier still has the old stuff so I bought into a few rolls of 1/8",1/4",1/2",but when this runs out I’ll probably be into the NEW AND IMPROVED,BLA,BLA,BLA,stuff.Herb P.S. How’s the surf?I heard the Kona winds were up and running a month ago or so, kinda recked the surf,ya?Herb

…If you are talking about “clear” kylon use over your paint, that’s okay, but lightly, and I mean lightly! If you are talking about using good ol’ krylon paints for you color work, refer to my previous post.Herb …Teddy,I miss interputed your message(I think?)AS far as a cheap cover"clear" acrylic,I spray future floor shine polish to seal my paints anymore, but again, lightly! Also you can thin white glue and use that as a clear cover.Herb

Howzit Herb, Huge surf and Konas were a fact for about 6 weeks. Trades are back now but the surf has definetly dropped. But konas make for good surf at Middles,Rock Quarry, Cannons, Bobo’s, Annini. Konas mean lots of lefts for the goofy’s. Just getting back to work after adding an addition(8’ by 15’) to shop. Gonna make it the new painting and U.V. curing room. Bobby Allen was just here to borrow some cat. and acetone and wants to know if anybody out there remembers him from Russel and the Brotherhood days.Aloha, Kokua
