Painting on Foam

Dear Swaylocks, I need your help.

My second board is completely finished (thanks Ken for your help).  And now I'm ready to do some art work on it.

     1. Has anyone experienced any problems with taping and removing the tape on foam?

     2. What type of paint should I use for the lines? Also I think I can use permanent markers.

     3. Should I paint the background first then the plaid design or do a tinted resin over the plaid once its done?

I am planning on doing a really awesome sweet rad plaid... and have it all worked out in my mind, on paper, etc... just gotta execute it now!

Thanks for your help!!

peace.  whitney.

…hello,

clean the surface very well until apply the tape

you can clean it by blowing or with a big soft brush

if you want to paint one color besides the other

after painted and let dried 1 you can apply in the edges a very light smear of clear from rattle can to fix the color and tape without problems to start next color beside

if you want to do a pattern you can do that taping everything before painting

better not to use markers on the foam

you can do the pinlines on the Hot coat

Whitney, Blow off foam good so tape can stick. Use good quality auto tape as it sticks to foam well.

Use acrylic paint. don’t use any paint pens that are not water based.

Poska pens work good.

Paint with a brush or thin paint to use airbrush.

have fun, go for it!

I got my start with tape. spray paint and punk-rock stencils 25 years ago, still painting surfboards for a living!
