I occasionally paint boards with spray cans of acryilic lacquer from the larger auto parts store. The colors are great, it dries real fast and doesn’t fade. The name of the paint is Plasti-kote. My question is: Has anyone figured out how to alter the spray tip on a spray can to make it more like an airbrush application with a narrower fan pattern? Are there any other spray caps that I might be able to change out? Thanks R. Brucker…
Roger - There are quite a few spray pattern tips available for spray paint cans. http://www.graffiti.org/wam/index.html#caps
Roger - There are quite a few spray pattern tips available for spray paint > cans. I learned a trick from the Vatos in the hood, that works well with spray cans.Use a tube from a empty toilet paper/paper towel roll to focus the spray,by putting the tube in front of the nozzle tip/hole(like a hose)This works great, but watch for dripping out the end of the tube from long term spraying.Herb

Thanks > R. Brucker… Wear googles: many times, I have taken a thin, sharp awl (the kind used to flatten gangbanger
s tires), wrap the point with a paper towel, and carefully/slowly puncture the upper section of the spray can (DON
T shake first!). Of course, the propellent will immediately escape, leaving a very handy premix of paint in the lower section that can be easily drained off and used in an airbrush. This process takes less than 2 minutes. Make sure to aim the puncture/escaping propellent away from your eyes and into a trash can. Do not inhale.
Thin lines from graffiti artists. When I was 16 I was a graffiti frek, the real “writers” hardware for making thin lines consists in this: take a tip from a spray lubricant like contact cleaner or CRC, cut the little cane about an inch, then slot in a needle from a sterile syringe and cut it the same lenght of the cane, then with a lighter’s flame gently heat the cane till it welds to the metal. That’s the real lifetime lasting tip to draw 1/4 inch lines with a can without any problem of leaking. Obviously don’t stay too much on the same point since the quantity of paint exiting from the tip is larger than normal tips, but real cool FX are guarantee

Danny, I`ve only used lacquer as one of the final coats, after all the resin work is finished. Better yet, polyurethane automotive paints (and clears) are incredible. Just be sure to heed all the application advisories and health warnings. Dale

Thanks > R. Brucker… Hay, Thanks for the replies. I found spray tips for spray cans that come in differant fan patterens. Just stick them in the can and go. You can buy 100 caps for around $ 8 dollars. Here is the web site www. x2project.com/onl.htm Roger …
