anyone have approx. dimensions on that plywood newport replica? thanks.
yea…any1 with dims or even a good estimation of the dims of that newport replica please post them. That board looks somewhat easy to build. Plus im not confident that id do a good job glassing. so wood for me is the way to go
I was asking the same question on a different site. The specs are listed on the Vagabond link that Nels posted previously. In the the first paragraph of the text, click on highlighted ‘Concave Vector.’ This will take you to the original board. Details are there.

thanks for the info baidark, dubstar heres the dims
Length: 40 3/4"
Thickness: 1 1/4"
Nose: 16 1/2"
Tail: 20"
-Im thinkin of doin mine out of luan(sp?) or marine plywood. From the pictures its looking like the wood was never really bent…and that the minimal rocker was just sanded in.
The width off the original Concave Vector is 20", although I’ve since heard that some originals were 19.5". The dimensions posted here are from the original foam/fiberglass Concave vector. The Replica is out of plywood and thus much thinner. Roger put the concave in by sanding down the bottom in appropirate areas; I presume not as deep a concave on the Replica. It’s Sunday morning as I write this and Roger told me he was planning on hitting it early today - I’ll find out from him what starting wood dimensions and type of materials he used for the board and fins and forward that along.
Tom,
Quote below is from an e-mail from Roger Wayland about the Replica Newport Paipo Concave Vector he made out of wood. The url below that will get you to several things he wrote that detailed how he makes many of his boards.
Regarding the tools, material, etc for the replica. Board and fin material = Baltic Birch 3/8 in. I routed slots for the fins . I used wood glue to initially set the fins in the slot. I then used a epoxy filler to fill in around the fins. I used wood putty to fill in any small holes. Main tools used were a jig saw to cut initial shape, small makita grinder and a 6 in polisher/sander. Paint, gloss spray paint, finish is 2 coats of urethane.
