I’d like to know anyone’s opinon of Dave Parmenter’s article on Wayne Lynch in this month’s issue of Surfer.
I don’t like his writing style. Seems like kind of a smart ass. Don’t know the man so maybe it is just me!!

…I look forward to reading THAT , when it comes out !
I read that they did a boat trip with Andrew Kidman …THAT would be quite some movie !
I would love to see footage of Dave and Wayne surfing together (two good surfer-shapers , in line with Andrew’s ongoing movie themes , it would seem ) …
‘Consafos’ Kirk … any comments , please ?
cheers
ben
Hey Roger, I was thinking cynical. Cynical is supposed to be erudite and hip. Mike
Well, Lynchy was/is one of my favourite surfers, I’m a big fan of Parmenter’s trip even if he does get out there a bit and I work with Andrew so I think it’s one of the best things I’ve seen in a surf mag in a while, but I am very obviously biased! I like Parmenter’s anti-commercialisation rant as a way to introduce the story. I think we need totally hardline guys like Parmenter (and the many others like him, a number of which post or posted here) to provide a counterpoint to the excesses caused by the expansion of the surf industry. DP has often maintained that little guys, be they backyarders, small scale builders or the visionary/lunatic fringe of design, are the ones who help keep board design and surfing moving forward through their ability and willingness to experiment. Lynch has certainly maintained his path and in his 50s seems to be still trying to refine the surfing experience in his own low key purist way. The recent boards of his I’ve seen are beautiful things, but like I say- I’m biased. Andrew’s photos are great, and I don’t know if he filmed it Ben, but I know he has some more excellent photos from the trip. I think it’s a good sign that Surfer would run a story like that- a couple of old blokes flogging a boat around in cold water is a novel concept for surf mag fun.

DP is right. The keepers of the soul of surfing. More relevant now than ever before.
It is just you. Read it with a bit of humor in you!! He likes to make fun of his adventures and daily views of life.
Don’t forget what Mr. Gerry Lopez sezs: The best surfer is the one with the biggest smile on his face!

Haven’t read it, but the last thing I read by him re. Clark closing was ok. I think he has come a long ways from his early writing… I won’t go into it.
Thanks for your patience -Taylor
