Surf scene in Pascagoula,MS area?? will be there from 10/23-27. any surf? Should be busy with work, but would love to get a gulf coast surf in. I lent my "guide to northamerican surf"to a buddy, and this trip is pretty last minute. Any info out there in the Sway universe?
I dont care if it’s double over ankle, just want to make the most of a business trip.
I live in New Orleans and surf around this area a bit. Pascagoula itself isn’t much for surf. It’s still blocked by the barrier islands and close to the Mississippi River mouth, but just to the East of there is Dauphin Island, Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan, Orange Beach, all in Alabama, and then a little more East is Pensacola Beach and Navarre in Florida. I’ve heard Dauphin Island is still pretty torn up from recent hurricanes, but I don’t know for sure. Typically, I like to surf Pensacola. The water is a little nicer/cleaner. This is all within 1-2 hours of Pascagoula. I usually surf here in Louisiana, but that would be further for you to go, and the water is muddy and stinky here, just the way we like it, with beautiful views of the offshore drilling platforms. Have a great trip!
Dude i was stationed in Biloxi, which is 5 mins away from Pascagoula, for almost a year. Before I went i remember peeps slapping me on the back -“hey man, you’re so frickin lucky!”, and i was thinking “hell, maybe i am really lucky?”. It’s the only place i lived near the ocean where i didn’t actually set on single foot/toe/hair in the ocean. Not to surf/fish/dive, or even just to get in the ocean and feel good.
There are barrier islands off that stretch of coast tho ( Ship’s Island, Dauphin island, and some others) that would seem to block most any possible swell, and keeps the Mississippi mud in – those islands are actually somewhat pretty (it’ll look like paradise once you see the water in Pasca), and maybe you can get storm swell there.
