hahaha nice one cam

I tried looking at it on the day of the storm and the camera crashed just after it was reported… lots of people wanting to have a look.

pretty cool… hope it makes a gnarly point break…

rif.

Hope it makes it safely back out to sea as I’d hate to see the environment get impacted by it.

I like the Newcastle area and I’d hate to see long term environmental damage.

Looks like it’s pretty well grounded on the beach though, not sure how you’d move something like that?

I think its gonna take a lot of reef/bottom along with it if they manage to tow it out…

they are going to have a big problem getting it out as the sand flow to that region is pretty solid so the longer they leave it the more sand will build up around it… the only way to reverse that is to pump the sand out wich makes a huge mess…

my no.1 concern is that it doesnt break open and spill its fuel load… that would be a coastal disaster like australia has never seen and will kill everything in the sea around it…

I dont know why they dont pump a chemical into the fuel that solidifies it… at least to a jelly… then whoever owns it can worry about cleaning their boat and we dotn have to worry about our coast line… after all they chose to ignore the warnings and not move out to sea when told about the storm.

not a good result…

rif.

No, not a good result.

I wasn’t trying to be a Smart A$$ in my previous post either when I said “Watch it on coastalwatch.com.au”

Just thought others would be interested.

also some recent storm surf photos [from coastalwatch, too] , as well as a link to a shipwrecked near cronulla some years back …

yeah… i went and looked at it… glad i’m not the one having to drag it out.

clip from news .com.au salvage teams have laid three anchors and connecting sea cables they will use in a bid to winch the pasha bulka from a sandbar

wow'' this thing has gone onto the beach whith big ben reef in front of it''

quote from salvage expert said attempts to retrieve the grounded pasha bulka were highly likely'' to fail because of the structural damage it had incurred.

          on the island

They reckon that they’re going to drag it back out to sea with three huge Tug Boats. Good Luck!! As most Newy locals would know, there’s three reefs out just behind the tail section. Even if they do get the sucker out, the potential damage to several excellent reef breaks are a real possibility. They were going to attempt it today/tonight, but another big low has formed off the coast and a big southerly swell is predicted. Hopefully the inner hull will hold, because the outer one is showing stress and starting to crack. Exxon Valdes anyone??

hey gill

i grew up in the knobys area have fond memorys'' hurts to see that sucker siting there

         looking like a bad result

one the island

Hoping the attempts to get it out will be successful… I’m the same as you - hurts to see it.

I heard on the news tonight that there was going to be an attempt tonight on the high tide (after dark), but looking at the coastalwatch.com.au webcam, she still looks stuck.

So the fair lady finally left our shores.

Nobby’s Beach will be back to normal in no time.

Saw some shopkeeper complaining that now “Pasha” has gone, business will be down… baffoon

hey guys, i just logged in for the first time in several months so i missed this info.

just thought i’d add that i’ve surfed Nobby’s Reef a few times since the ship was moved and the wave is still quite good. the cungie or whatever has been stripped off the top so it’s not as soft to land on the rocks anymore and some sections are flatter than before from where the ship was dragged over it. they reckon the rudder is still down there though. there was plenty of broken pieces of rock on the shore after they got rid of it.

i surf that spot regularly and everyone was stoked to be out there again together after the ordeal. overall, it was a relieving outcome as everyone was bummed about it and concerned that we would end up with that hideous sight there for good.
