peanut gallery alert rr epoxy and US blanx compatibility?

so I got the 1st of my experimental us blanks.

should I use poly or r.r.epoxy?

any considered precautions?

any desirability /advantages one way or the other?

old methods are easy

new apps are fraught with unknowns.

the best of both worlds

would be a desired evolutionary step.

hows that for serious

i’d say that it really depends on the rider. i found the U.S. Blanks foam to be notably softer and more spongy than the old Clark. however, this also makes it more springy. a lightweight surfer who really likes to pump for speed and push his way through turns should appreciate having the extra spring in his step from the foam. RR would be a good complement for him because of it’s lower weight and better flex than a typical polyester glassjob. on the flip side, for the average surfer who just wants to cruise, or who is maybe a little out of shape, a polyester glassjob might help to mellow out the ride, and would probably better withstand pressure dings, which i’m certain will abound under the elasticity of epoxy. just my three cents…

any considered precautions?

yeah, dont leave your mixed epoxy in the bucket like you do with poly!!!

(everyone does that their first time…i remember my first beer too…)

the main advantages using poly is production speed/efficiency, ease of use (esp sanding) and cosmetics…IOW, the pro laminators love it

all other factors, particularly physical/performance props & environmental, RR epoxy wins by a country mile.

either will make a fine laminate…RR epoxy being more durable esp if you post bake it in your car for a day.

the US blanks formula is changing right now and has changed over the last few weeks progrssivley. the first ones were reletively soft, but not annoyingly so.

the latest batch (came in to FH in Ventura in the middle of last week) have the number 66 over the US blanks logo, this is the hardest density theyve produced so far, as theyve been getting feedback from people as they go…the batches before thes eones are nice as well, they are numbered 32 and 33 above the logo.

check out what yours says, if yours doesnt have a 66 and you think its soft, youre right, and the new ones are better

ive shaped somewhere aroun 20 of the US blanks so far, and ive noticed a progressive hardening as they change the formulas

have fun!
