Hello all,
I am attempting to design the perfect California surfboard for an advanced surfer. Female, Age 14, Advanced Surfer.
The board will need to work at several southern california breaks for competition type surfing. Newport, Huntington, Trestles, & Salt Creek. I have my own ideas but I’d like to hear any tiny tips anyone out there might have. Just general characteristics of a California shortboard in the 5’7" to 5’8" range. What has been working for the young ripper out at your break?
Thanks,
mr clark
i have been fine tuning a template just like this for a long time now. ive found that just a tad bit thicker and a hair wider than the surfer's previous board preference and moving the wide point forward of where the surfer normally rides it is helpful because it can kinda get sloppy and mushy and it never is generally big in the summer... this helps in areas like t street and trestles on an average summer day when there is some more competition and there are just nice crumbling beach breaks. however i have noticed a performance loss when it hollows out and gets steeper. its harder to ride off the back foot and turn as sharply. i assume shes surfing wsa and isf and possibly even nssa if shes very advanced and into competitions? i have a template for a 15 year old kid (small for his age) that is very highly involved in nssa and wsa and isf. pm me and you might be able to use it as a starting reference point and then tune in her template from there
