PhD. new design concept

Hello , This is my design, Polf Tail. You can visit me at polferhull.com.  Do you have any questions?

Surfed it yet?

What kind of fin?

Seen very similar tails back in the mid 1970’s. I believe Infinity did some. Also, David Balzerak in Florida.

So you are shaping in little semi keel/concave tails?  Interesting, kinda like what Skip did with horizontal wings on a fish.  I wonder what the effect would be with a more hullish form, ie, wide point forward, little less rocker, little more length, and slightly convex nose entry.  I wonder if you could get the best of both worlds, a full long carving lay it on the rail turn, and those pivot snap slides the kids are so fond of.

Mike

Wilderness Surfboards came out with the “double rail” some time ago. I’ve seen them work pretty well in lined up surf.

Li’ dat.

Yah, I AM at work and yeah you can watch all 3 of these things at once, and yes it is more fun than working.

; )

This one is for one of my team guys, Mikey. He took it out at terribly mushy trails. It looked good. And mike was happy. He just had one session on it though.

About a 7.5 -8.5 inch fin. I have my own design. Single fin surfboards will be shipped with appropiate fin size, to rider.

Ya, i just picked up the infinity model, got it for sale at Bashams in San Clemente. Are they worth any money? I had to check out his wings. They are on the side of the board.

Sweet, thank you janklow, Nothing like good evidence.

I am sure we can work ou anything!

I am sure we can work out anything!

In 1971 or 2 Paul McKinney had Dick Brewer shape something very similar but not as exagerated.  And by 73-4 it was the rage.  Winged pin, with concaves, fangtail were some of the names back then.  Still remember the quote from SURFER, “the fangtail bites deep”, I do not know why just do.  Both Paul and Dick told me how they came up with it to my face at different times.  O, it was Paul’s idea, he claimed it till the end. and probably would be stoked to finally get it in print.

Nice looking little skateboards. have you produced any with slightly less rocker and more length? As others have pointed out there is nothing new under the Sun. But you are onto something. From the videos you have presented here, the board does seem to have a nice combination of drive and performance.

Oh ya, My last one had only 2.75" nose rocker. I was intrigued by the idea that on a 5'7" board=18.25' that less rocker will perform. What had happened is i shaped my stick out of a 7'8' blank. Ran my template to low. And presto, flat top was born. So it worked fine, for me.It is a keeper. But the crowd trips, not that asthetically pleasing to the eye.

Also did those 72 models, have side wings or down wings? Sure the wings been around, But from the looks of the infinity, they do nothing, except mayby slight controlled release? I do not buy into all the art surfboard makers do above the waterline, and on top of the deck. Except the stinger

I disagree… at least to this beholder.

Howzit ghettorat, Paul died a while back and by the late 70's he was a total space cadet who would talk to himself and didn't surf anymore, such a shame since he was a really good surfer in his day. I think he was killed on the North Shore of Oahu and I can't remember exactly what year it was but he had been on Kauai for quite a few years but was drunk most of the time. Aloha,Kokua
