Looking for a little help locating THE shot of Phil E and Mike D. You know the one where Mike was cropped out. I believe it was at Yokohama. Anyone?
The uncropped photo might be in Phil’s book. I’ll check it when I get home …
It WAS taken at Yokohama, by Severson, I think.
EDIT: Yokohama is correct, Severson is not. BRUCE BROWN, IS THE CORRECT ANSWER !
Thanks Bill. Now can anyone find a good shot of it?
was it the journal or longboard magazine that did a piece on diff.? i’m pretty sure that the picture is in that article and he’s commenting about it(the fact he got cropped out, etc.)
Severson has a coffee table book, available through the Journal. It might be in there.
Mike
I found the Diff piece in SJ, and the photo does not appear there. It is a’‘frame snatch’’ from one of the BRUCE BROWN films. I’ve seen the motion sequence before.
there’s a pretty ‘famous’ painting of the cropped shot by mike cassidy called SURF '65 high $$ original and limited print
Andrew,
I found the photo on PAGE 76, of Nat Youngs’ book, ‘‘THE HISTORY OF SURFING.’’ BRUCE BROWN, not Severson, is the photographer.
