please excuse my self indulgence , but I just want to test something …following 's.f.p’s instructions for uploading shots via “photobucket”…
Also , a question …
IF I use “photobucket” to put bigger photos on here ,
is that costing Mike and the guys extra money / taking up too much forum space / slowing down the server or whatever the correct jargon is ?
please excuse my total computer gooberiness ,
but I don’t want to cause any problems for Mike , the server , you guys .
thank you for your patience …cheers !
ben
…trying to learn something new / helpful every day …

photobucket experiMENTAL …see if THESE send to you, okay , Shaun ?
…speakin’ of kneelo boards …here’s a 1970s logo off my Hardy kneelo, prior to it being resurrected as the resin swirled “bushfire fish” you see pictured above and below…
so , will they cut me off after a couple of months , if i upload / download [whatever] “to many” pictures …is there a limit to the NUMBER of photos they let you play with per month , or can you be “sirloadsalot” there ???

Only one way to find out, and I think you’re the man for the job Ben. Nice photos your first time around.
Chip, I opened the account, found my pic, right clicked the image and saved the link location, and…then what? I pasted the link location in the message box and obviously it didn’t work. Paste it where and do what? thx
The thing with photobucket pictures is that you have to remember not to put pictures of things you don’t want seen in the same account as the pictures you post on websites. The pictures on websites allow you to click the picture which brings you to the account of the person. From there you can see all the pics that the person has in that account. There might be a way of disabling this feature but I don’t know how. I’m speaking from experience Hehe.
you might know this but you need to use the advance editor function
Find the location of where you want the picture to go in the message and then click on the icon of a picture on the far right.
when the link line come up you paste your URL info on that line and save and the picture will popup with no restriction of size cause it’s just linking to another site.
I usually dump all my photos on the smurfer site and just link them versus trying to reformat them for attaching which chews up Mikes band width since he ends up hosting the pics.
sadly here’s one guy’s bucket that’s reminiscent of the entire 6oz catalog but all from the hands of a single locally abused craftsman who’s pretty much ready to bag it all out of frustration and become a night security guard or anything else that’ll help pay the bills and bring him peace of mind. too bad and so sad that no one has the time or ability to help him out and save his art. Something for all the dreamers here to look forward too I guess after decades of sacrifice.
Each file. So if someone doesn’t view an image after 90 days it may get wiped. They have software that tries to balance usage with age so it often won’t simply vanish on the 90 day mark. But it
If they aren’t accessed by anyone at all for 90 days they go in the list for potential deletion. That doesn’t mean they WILL get deleted. Just that they can be deleted if space runs below a certain threshold. Usually the ones that haven’t been accessed for the longest time will get picked for deletion first. It’s a pretty common approach for these kinds of services.
Surfer may or may not use something similar - they could also just delete everything older than from time to time.
There’s other approaches too.
It’s always best to read the T&C and FAQ of these services.
Greg’s 700+ may simply get accessed often enough to stay up. Or he may have bought a premium account (one that isn’t subject to the aging rules). Or maybe some of his photos will vanish now and then and he’ll have to upload them again. Lots of possibilities.
I think someone mentioned that if the picture isn’t accessed in 30 days it will get deleted.
The one thing to keep in mind for future generations of Swaylockers is that if you discuss an image that is being pulled from another site, and that site ever goes down or deletes your image, the image will no longer show up in the thread.
Might be worth looking into http://www.flickr.com, they seem to be really popular and very user friendly, not to mention free.
Like Swaylock mentioned though, it really sucks to be searching the archives and read these great discussions but getting the dreaded red-x for all the pictures because they were linked from some now-defunct personal domain.
thanks , guys , for all this feedback . It interests me to hear what is available and what people here are using .
Also , thanks Mike Paler for that ! [I WAS wondering what the "dreaded red x " showing, instead of photos, in the archives was all about …now I understand !]
