Pimp new sando logos

I figured since I’m going to take a shaping break of indeterminate length after finishing this batch of boards, I would pimp them out to the max. To that end, I ordered some laser-cut veneer logos to compliment the balsa. I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking that a printed rice-paper logo just doesn’t look right on a balsa sando board.

These are just my regular logo, set in an oval, nothing fancy really. Unfortunately, I asked for 6.5" wide logos, and wound up with 6.5" tall logos! 11.5" wide!! The replacements in the right size are on the way, but I assembled a couple of the large ones just to check them out. They look pretty pimp, if I do say so myself. They weren’t cheap, about $90 for 6 logos, but certainly less than I might have imagined for such a short run of laser cuts including setup and image conversion fees. If anyone else is interested in doing this, I was dealing with Rick at www.laserdoodads.com, and he was extremely helpful and patient with all my newbie questions and indecision.

Anyone have any suggestions what I should do with six of these super-size logos?

Shwuz

they are great

i dont know anyone who could do that here

deffienatly better than paper decals

very cool…

you could use the big ones to make a shop sign… or glue em to you car,

how thick are they?

pretty thin, I’m thinking like 1/40" or 1/32. Feels like a “normal” veneer thickness.

I was actually thinking of inlaying one of them into a wood toilet seat to hang on my garage wall… keep me humble, you know.

Of course, I just had someone else telling me to burn that logo and find something, “anything” else instead. I’d hope that by now someone would have been kind enough to tell me my logo sucked, if indeed it did.

Honestly, before I go slapping this thing on three more innocent boards, tell me… Does my logo suck?

I like your Logo! I am a long time fan of Douglas Adams though so that might make me partial, but I like it. besides, mine is much worse. . .

yes.

NO! I’m just kidding Shwuz,

very clever logo. happy. flowing. creative both in entendre and delivery.

stick with it, and let the nay-sayers try and come up with something better

for their boards! (if they can even make a board…)

man i think the hardest part of making a surfboard is coming up with a logo, look at how many proofs Rick Kane had to do…

you came up with something funny, unique, and very inline with the true nature of a surfboard… most guys just print out their name and put it in different places on the board… just like with the balsa boards that it will go on, some folks will get it intenstly and some won’t, until slater is riding one anyhow…

I think those will look great on balsa. The dark wood will definatley be much better than ink on ricepaper against the light Balsa.

I’ve been thinking of getting laser cutting done on Paua shell ( http://www.oceanshellnz.com/shop_browser.asp?groupno=6&firstitem=0 ) because it looks so good on these guy’s boards http://www.surfline.co.nz/extras.htm

I’m guessing it’s going to be expensive as well so I have to think up something special to justify it.

Damn, I was thinking of using some pua veneers too… was kind of keeping that one under my hat though. After seeing that guys stuff, I’m thinking I’d be out of my league there. :frowning:
