Here is my first board… Albiesia over xps with cork rails and deck pad… So this was a total creative moment. It rides awesome in head high minus, maybe in bigger but I got to wait for waves. Catches small waves like a longboard. It drops in late like a shortboard.
It’s only 18.5 wide . Looks like a door in the water love it. Why it works? Is it a fluke?
Well it’s my first board with a fin. Made alaias first. I was helping Gary young when I made most of it. I need to get a few more people on it for opinion. Let me know if anyone is on east side big island.
Tomo style in front, width and volume; incut fish minus the buttcrack in the back. I interpret the combo as a hybrid of two proven and somewhat similar design concepts. Good job.
Needs more pics, though. I’d love to see your rails.
Living 15 minutes from Hilo and working on a few boards this year. Ran into a few bradahs riding alaia and always wondered about an alaia build with an EPS core. Hope to see you riding this build around Honolii…
Also, check out Feb/March issues of Hawaiian Airlines Hana Hou magazine. It features an article titled “Riding the Plank” with a depiction of Rob Machado triming on a alaia at Log Cabins on the North Shore. Article mentioned the secret to a magic alaia is flex and so I imagine an EPS core would help. Also featured a few craftsmans (i.e. Ben Wilkinson) who are closely tied to the surfing community. Really inspiring work!
Next ones are tomo style template. They should see waves this week. I am using eps and cork on new builds for more flex. I surf pohoiki mostly but if you see me a honolii come take a test drive… I need feedback
