Just some board porn.
A friend was kind enough to let me borrow this piece of surfing history for a coupla days, so I could spill a lot of drool and take enough measurements to hopefully someday produce something kinda like the original.
Thought some peeps here might like a look.
8’ 0.5" along the stringer:
According to my friend, her father-in-law was stationed on Guam back in the early '70’s. He was surfing one day, broke his board, and was given this board as a replacement by another guy in the lineup.
Who was that other guy in the lineup? Well, he was the shaper of this board; you may have heard of him:
IIRC, Gerry was shaping these boards on Maui back at the time this board was probably shaped.
This logo was pretty dang famous:
width:_______________________________thickness @ stringer:
11.5" width @ 12" back from nose___________2.125"
17" " @ 24"________________________2.75"
19.125" @ 36"________________________2 15/16""
19" @ 48"________________________2 7/8""
10" width @ 12" up from tail______________1 5/8"
14 7/8" @ 24"________________________2.25"
17 5/8" @ 36" _______________________2 11/16"
Not much rocker compared to a modern semi-gun, 4.6" at the nose:
2" of nose rocker @ 12" back from the nose, and 1/2" of rocker @ 24" back from the nose.
Tail rocker is 3.5" at the tail, 2.5" @ 12" up from the tail, 1.5" @ 24" up, and 3/4" @ 36" up.
Rear of fin touches the board @ 6" up from tail, front of fin touches the board @ 12" up from tail
Mostly a flat bottom:
I was told by Jim Felker, son of Larry Felker, that this board might have been known as a “Pineapple Bomber”.
Looking forward to making a copy someday:
