Pinline Problem Can Anyone Help

Just did gloss coat over water based acrylic pinline, the gloss coat beaded off of the pinline.

How do I fix this problem?

Thanks

I know resin pinliners use wire wool to get a key on the pinline before glossing, I guess lay the acrylic on thick and scuff with 80 grit

You should scuff down (lite sand) the pinline with a red scotchbrite pad or 320 paper before you do your gloss. That will give it a better surface for the gloss to bite to.

Since you already glossed the board, sand the gloss down. If you burn into the pinline, repaint the spot and scuff down. If it’s real bad, sand everthing off and start over. Where I work at, we add some extra surfacing agent to the gloss which helps in getting the gloss to flow out better over painted areas. This is with poly glosses.

My vote too when finishing with epoxy.

But lately, I’ve been spraying MinWax PolyCrylic floor coating on for the final finish and don’t have the beading problem.

Good luck. Even if you have to scape your pinline off, the next one will be even better. Possibly. Hey, it could happen.

Thanks for the idea, Duh! I should have thought of scratching the pin line with some sand paper.

Well, I will see what happens when I sand the gloss coat on Monday night. Hope I don’t have to redo it, that would suck.

NY, a fine scotch brite pad will be better. It won’t take off so much and minimize potential to sand through.
