A question for Cleanlines or any other of you craftsmen. I always wind up with resin draining out of the top (inside) of my taped pinlines and pooling on the bottom, leaving a color differential. I use glossing resin (Silmar)and sand to #220 before taping. I want a fine surface for a clean line. Maybe I am sanding too fine and not leaving enough “tooth” for the resin to lie in while it kicks? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Resin Pins…easy to do …hard to explain. In a nutshell I would say try to use Reichold Resin.Silmar is to slow to jell.Shoot em hot (ten min gel).Use more pigment(common mistake).I actually thin the resin with styrene sometimes. The main thing to remember is to lay it on thick…and go around twice. In other words mix the batch ,paint on a layer count to 10 and go over it again ,walk the brush strokes out just like a gloss.Pull the tape immediatly after cleaning your brush(its not going to run). You can also pull the tape when it kicks and the wax has risen but that is another deal…R. Brucker I forgot some important stuff.Use a round artists brush, mine has a long 8 inch handle, natural white bristles around 1/2" diameter.Flat brushes don’t hold enough resin.Use good pigments, that stuff from the boat places in the little squeeze tubes are watered down.My pigments are about like peanut butter in thickness and you get them from the Board Suppliers (Fiberglass Florida etc.)…R.B.

ever try pinstriping with resin?
Herb: Hey amigo, long time no talk. This sounds interesting. I’ve got some nasty, molasses looking boat lam that just might be the ticket to a couple of pinline jobs. How much surfacing agent are we talking about? 2%, 5%, 10%? I’ve finallly gotten my hands on some decent pigments (NOT the 1 oz. tubes from the boat store)and I’m ready to lay down some nice black pins to outline a couple of acid splash panels. Thanks for the tips as always.
