Pinline Question

Hello world, what a great site! My question is this, when doing a cloth inlay (nose portion only) on a 9’9 longboard, I was thinking of doing my pinline on the lam coat. Is this a good/bad idea? Otherwise I would do it over the hotcoat, I don’t want to mess with doing a resin pinline… Any advise is appreciated Aloha & Mahalo

Dewey: I believe you would run into problems. Have only done a few myself but my thoughts are that without a really well sanded hotcoat (taken to 220 or 320) in the areas of the pinlines you are taking a risk. The tapeline is one of the key elements to a good pinline, got to have good tape applied on a smooth surface. The resin or paint will follow the slightest scratch or the exposed weave of the surface and creep under your tapeline. That’s no fun. Using paint pens only with a cheater type tool the uneven surface of exposed weave will cause you grief as well. If you do a search in the archives for “pinlines” or similar you should get lots of great info that will get you setup. Good luck. Tom S.>>> Hello world, what a great site!
