Does it matter if I use a planer other than the Hitachi-Clark modification or the esteemed Skil 100? Have there been other planers that passed the test for mowing foam?
search the archives for planer because theres tons of info on all types of planers, ways to modify them etc. It covers most any planer as well. http://www.surfboardglassing.com
Try to search “Bosch”.I explained in detail how to convert one. R.B.
a planer is a planer. skils are too expensive, modified ones just cut deeper w/ some other advantages. if you make only a few boards here and there a cheap B&D will work just fine. here’s a tip…the modified Hitachi’s have the bevel cut line filled in. this is so it won’t rip the foam as easily. take some JB weld, avail. everywhere, great shit, fill it in. after it sets up grind it down. that’s about all i can offer
Thanks for the information everyone. I did check the archives, and found more than enough useful conversation on the subject. However, John Mellor’s recent post has inspired me to try planing by hand. Think I’ll give it a shot, but I won’t choose a long board. Aw hell, why not! -cjs.
You just made my day! Good luck!!!
