So I’m going to make a board for a friends daughter. She’s 49" tall, 55lbs. and competes in triathalons. The last part still seems wrong to me but… So I’m thinking of a egg shape 6’6" 16" / 21" / 15" tri fin. Problem is I’m not familiar with short boards. So rocker 3" nose and 2" tail? I’d like to keep it low. Is it? Then rails: up nose to 50/50 mid to hard down tail or up in the nose to pinched 50/50 mid to tail? I’m looking for something that will be stable, easy to paddle forgiving and apparently pink and floral. Thank. Eric
3" is definitely very low nose rocker. If you’re at all worried about her perling, I’d put more kick in the nose.
Great way to share the stoke!
I have made boards for my little sister and other girls.
The feed back that I got shape wise was can I put my arm around it and carry it to the beach. They preferred my semi-guns over long boards(narrow+float+nose rocker)Girls also seem to like my short board that I cut the nose off and made a lite mini round nosed 6’8".N12"M19.5"T14"&2.5"thickNR4.5&TR3
Flowers and glitter in the sanding resin help.

Glitter…
Little girls love glitter…
Exxxxelllent! (Looking like Montgumery Burns). Thanks guys and Famousactress…Phill? Little longer, little narrower with more nose and tail rocker. Can do! Oh, ya can’t forget the glitter. That will be a great addition! Have a geat one. Eric
This board is being successfully ridden by my now 8yo. He has grown 6 inches since the pic was taken last november at San O.
His dimensions: 4’7" & 72lbs
The board dimensions: 5’10" x14x18x 13 x 2 1/4
As far as rocker, it is really flat, though I don’t remember numbers off the top of my head.
Blank: homemade 2lb EPS with triple 1/4" redwood benderboard stringers
Glassed for learning/armageddon: RR epoxy 6+4 S glass bottom 6+6+4 Sglass top with nose and tail blocks
He likes the fact that he can comfortably carry it, and it has plenty of float for him
I am about to do the same, though not for a triathelete.
I would definitely suggest more NR and slightly less TR, maybe +2N and no more then -1/2T. I would also suggest a width suitable to the little beasts’ (the child that is) arm length. That is she should be able to wield the thing. Measure from arm pit to top of wrist and I would keep it, the board width, inside this measurement. Of course these are my own ideas and I look forward to reading others’. Also I don’t plan to make the board much taller then he or she can reach. I’m targeting a mini-fun shape. A ‘short board’ is relative to the rider in this case I think… so a 6’6" would not be a short board per se. Rails? 50/50 and soft through the middle or slightly turned down… but soft, slightly tucked through the tail, not the hardest I would think… sounds like she’ll be more of a passenger and not ‘driving’ for a little while.
