Does anyone out there know which plastic buckets will disslove or melt when exposed to PE resin, and which ones won't. I want to use an old rinsed out milk jug to mix pigments so that I don't have to waste my paper ones. I also have other plastics that are around the house that I could use. Thanks
Milk jugs are OK to use with resin.
Howzit astevens, Go to Ace and buy those plastic containers with the measurements on them, then after you use them and the resin is hard you can squeeze them and peel the old resin out. I could use the same one over and over and especially good for hot coats since the sanding resin pops out extra easy, plus you know exactly how much resin you are using.Aloha,Kokua
I don’t know if it’s the same in the US, but here in France all plastic bottles or glasses or any plastic container for that matter has identification letters molded in behind. PS means Polystyrene and you should never use it. PP and PE stand respectively for Polypropylene and Polyethylene and those will never melt.
sour cream
yogurt
that white stuff
vitamin bottles
water bottles
all work
they only melt
when the resin get HOT!!!
mix a couple hotter batches
to see when they melt
it’s easier to throw 'em away
when they are caked with resin
wash em in the dish washer
or with good hot soap and water,
to remove oily contaminants.
dixie cups are what baron von lunchmeats
prefers the paper non coated llike for the bathroom
dispenser for water like three oz. size.
there was a day when dickie mixed his resin in #10 tin cans
because a friend got em from some restaurant …
little salsa cans like herdez and el pato would work …
what ever you eat ,the containers it comes in…
if in doubt mix a small batch and coat the inside of the container
and you’d be good to go like not afraid of contaminants…
…ambrose…
I’ll mix resin in anything just to see what happens…
what have you got? the second batch is always better.
Don’t forget ice cream tubs, Ambrose. Yum. For polyester I use the same stuff as ambrose because I’m not doing any careful measurement. When I’m done I wait until the resin kicks then bend and crack the hard stuff out and reuse them. They get dusty, dirty, rat piss/shit, etc. Wipe them out and use them. I don’t do this with epoxy, of course. Mike
