Okay, so what I’m trying to do is make a file that can open in cad and cut on a cnc hotwire from a .brd file I’ve created. The thing is I just want the profile to be cut from a block not the whole board, even just the rocker line would be fine. I tried exporting the profile .dxf file directly from boardcad and sending that to insulfoam, but they said neither of the files would open in CAD for them. I don’t currently own CAD so I can’t try opening files or plotting the curve myself. Is their anyone who can help me out? I’ve attached the .brd file. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes a shot at it.
Hey fostachild,
Send me the .dxf file and I will convert it to just a foil and rocker view. I’ll save as a format that can be opened by insulfoam. Just let me know the accepted formats.
No problem

Hi,
I don’t know how many PMs I’ve got about this issue. This is an issue with the dxf file format, it’s neither backward nor forward compatible. My target was to be able to use dxf with Mach3 and DeskCNC which are two of the most common hobbyist/entry level CAM programs out there. The dxf implementation is pretty minimal to achieve this.
What you need is a dxf version converter tool which can read the dxf file from BoardCAD and convert it to the dxf version needed by the CAD package used by the the cutting company. I’m sorry I cannot recommend any particular converter, but a search on google on “dxf version converter” should give you a few to choose from.
Hope this helps.
Can you post the .dxf file, I will see if I can read it and convert it into something useable. I use Mastercam for the metalwork I do, I’d be glad to give it a try for you. Thanks.
