the idea is testing lots of fins, different sizes and setups just for fun…
yep
great stuff mate !
we’re on the same wavelength
very encouraging to me to read other people’s test ride reports and photos
good on ya !!
cheers

foiling , tab thickness / strength / sanding …ah yes …it’s not as easy as people would like to imagine eh ? [your foiling looks WAY better than mine , by the way !!]
kim,
as you said- FCS design their fins to snap instead of breaking the board and fin plugs.
in realety …IT DOESN’T WORK! every time it happend to me, the rear fin tab snaped while the front didn’t ,
resulting damage to the board.
sorry for being so defencive in my reactions to your post, but I feel like you forgot SWAY is mostly a backyard/home made board forum, and as one , many of the stuff you find here are tests/prototypes etc.
I don’t really care if my wooden fins snap rather than my board. If FCS failed in this section , and they’re not backyarders as you know, I feel free to shape, foil and just have fun without feelind bad or guilty about my art not being perfect.
anyway, thanks for the comment , everything I read here is appriciated and taken in consideration.
lee.
chipfish,
I sure you’re doing just fine but the aim for perfection is the only problem. it’s in our heads!
keep on aiming! that’s the only way.

Actually I didn’t take anything you said as being defensive. I was just curious about having the wood in the fin tabs. I certainly hope I did not come across as critical of your fins, I think they are pretty freaking good looking for home foiled stuff. I am certain I could not do any where near that good of a job.
Hey Lee_Jordan
Your thread is what i love about Sways. Experimentation and input from surfers all over the globe. Your fins look great , going to give the carbon/ply combo a go myself on some single foils soon. thanks for the clearly explained post.
Cheers

hi,
I’m glad I could take part of sways and contribute somt.
I forgot to say earlier-
for cutting the outline, I used jigsaw blades made for wood ( BOSCH ).
I ruined 2 blades for each fin.
then, I ordered GRIT blades specially made for these purposes.
haven’t tried them yet, but the look cool.

I think I paid less then 5$ for a 5pack…now they charge 16…
hi lee
i broke a carborundum blade on a fibreglass panel the other day
it was a thick panel , and i realised after that i was pressing too hard
i needed to let the tool do the work
and to rest when the blade became too hot [i had cut out three thick panels in a row , prior to it breaking…]
Hi Lee, Very nice thread well done. You are right about the grit blades , good choice. Mahalo,Larry
