Been a bit unhappy with final finish on sanded RR resin. (to 220 grit). It gets dirty really quick. Hands prints. Black smudges, etc. Supposed I sanded to 220, then went straight to a wool pad with rubbing compound and then another wool pad with fiberglass supply surfboard polish…
Not looking for a gloss, just a better looking sanded finish and possiblly more resistant to stain.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Rick
i would think dirt, smudges, fingerprints, etc would be more noticeable on a polished finish.
Maybe try to wet sand up to 500 or so before you bust out the wool?
Hey Rick,
I agree with bizgravy. Go to a higher grit before compounding. The stains and smudges are due to all the nice cracks and crevices caused by the 220 scratches that seem to love to collect dirt. Clean the board, hit it with 320 on a soft pad, then wetsand by hand with 500 or 400 & 600. The wetsanding takes only a few minutes per grit.
Rubbing compound is essentially like using 2500 grit, polish is even higher. There’s no way to get rid of 220 grit gouges with it, unless you plan on spending lots of time on it (hours).
Also, use some car wax after you’re done to partially fill in the residual scratches, and the wax will fill the crevices that the dirt would ordinarily find its way into…
