Polishing Gloss on Vintage Board

I bought a couple of vintage Nomad boards. They are in great shape and my thoughts are to repolish the original gloss. Not trying to make them look perfect…just cleaner. I have polished  lots of boards using wool pads but the car paint guys are using these foam pads that look interesting. Has anyone ever used these foam pads??

I could regloss them but I want to keep them all original. Your input will be appreciated.

I normally use Sureluster compound with a wool pad but that may be too agressive. I was thinking of the foam pad with a finer compound. Will be using a milwaukee polisher. Or maybe just take them to the local car detail place run by a bunch of Home Boys who clean up cars…grill chicken and ribs…plus sell “herbal products” . Its a Southern tradition Y’all.

Small world, I tried to buy that red one on savannah.craigslist last month, but I was too late ($50 was such a steal) . I’m glad someone who is looking to restore it, picked it up.

Interested in the 'foam pads', are they new ? Pics or links available please ?

There are a lot of those foam pads on the market. Different sizes. Some go on regular polisher and some go on random orbit machines.

I was happy to get the Nomads. I also saw the red one on CL and sped over to get it. I  bought the yellow tint single fin from the same guy. I paid $180 for both of them. I may take the boards to Jim Stephens at underground boardworks and make him  polish them. He owes me. LOL

They work fine.  Easy to wash out and reuse with various compounds.

Howzit Mr. Clean, $180 for both that's a deal and other than some dents they look to be in good condition, good score. Aloha,Kokua

Howzit Mr.Clean, Shureluster is the best I found but always use wool bonnets, neverthought I was being to agressive but I was using a Makita which is 4-5 lbs lighter.I always hated rubbing out boards I didn't gloss since I had no idea how thick the gloss coat was. Southern Tradition sounds like fun. When I start my travling I may just end up on that side of the US and will stop by for a over due meet up with you,Ihave a high school surf friend who also lives somewhere;s in Ga How do the people take to cars with Az license plates?.Aloha,Kokua

How’d they come out?

Kokula I can tell you for a fact that the south has changed a lot my first job out of high School was working for a record and Tape distribution company. I got the job of driving to Florida from N J in early march to deliver a truck load fora new Record shop. I was stocked snuck my board into the Truck. To do some warm water surfing in FL. This was 1969. Now mind you I did not have really long hair but I did have my Levi bell bottom jeans and my " Surfer tee shirt. The Interstate was not complete so had to take detours into small towns.  at some point I needed gas. Stopped at a station and siting out front was the owner.  He took one look at me and said" There's a station down the street the serves ( insert N word ) and Hippies." He turned to walk into his station. My thought was He's getting his shotgun and I better get my butt down the street.

Now it seems a lot better and they have some of the best sea food you can imagine in the low country.

 sorry for slight hijack

Howzit artz, As I as reading your post I couldn't figure out where you where coming from or going so I went back and reread my post and realized that you were referring to me asking about Az plates in Ga.. I would hope that things had changed somewhat since 1969 seeing that it was over 40 years ago. I will say that I did knew there where alot of people who didn't like Hippies and I never was one (a hippie or a hater) ,just a surfer who worked so I didn't have many proplems plus being an ex Marine helped also. When I lived on Kauai there was a lot of anamosity against hippies and I know they got lot of beatings from the local boys. One of these days after I get my eating thing together I would like to take off and just go here ever my instinct takes me and Ga is one place where I have 2 friends, 1 I went to high shool with and Cleanlines who I have never met but feel like he is an old friend just from swaylocks. I think it would be a great quest to travel around the US and meet as many sway guys as possible and since I am now retired, I am just waiting to be able to eat like a normal person to start such an endevor. Aloha,Kokua
