Polyamide Hardener?

Polyamide (Polyamine (sp?) )Hardener? What is this stuff, and what sort of properties does it have that might make it useful for surfboards(espescially wood and composites.)? anyone now a little more about it?

dont know a much about the chemistry, polyamides are hardeners used in high quality epoxies.they can cause skin irritations ,though more advances in amide chemistry has reduced/stoped this happening.

Poly-AMINES is epoxy hardener. Not to be confused with polyAMIDE(s) which is a thermo-plastics family that most notably includes NYLON.

sorry about that havent slept much this week

Thanks for the clarification. I was doing some checking around in the archives, and saw this hardener was used by a prominent shaper on this forum. (Sorry Bert, but there’s a lot of mystery in your methods…) I was wondering about the properites that might make it good for compsands.

There are some polyamide hardeners but their use in room temp cure systems isn’t quite what some of the amines are.

So if a polyamide hardener doesn’t go well with room temps, how about in a Autoclave? I remeber that they were being discussed quite frequently a few months back.
