In the interest of getting a board back in the water as quickly as possible, is it advisable to use a polyester hot coat (specifically sun cure) on a epoxy ding repair after first laminating with epoxy resin. Any special steps or pitfalls to avoid?
Paul. Polyester resin will not adhere to epoxy resin. When I repair epoxy boards I glass the ding with epoxy, sand the ding , apply a high build acrilic spray putty,sand,undercoat and paint with acrilic auto spraypaint. Wet & dry with 1200 and apply topcoat clear,w&d and polish.This eliminates the need to hot coat with epoxy.Good luck David.

I repaired a Surf Tech Munoz long board with the wood veneer skin.I did the patch in epoxy and used Reichold gloss resin for the final coat.Wet sanded and polished as normal.But…maybe I was lucky. R. Brucker

Will epoxy adhere to normal hot coat? I want to repair my board but only have epoxy lying around and am skint so can’t afford anything else…will an epoxy repair work?

High build acrilic spray putty is a product used in the auto smash repair industry in Australia.It is basically thick undercoat that sands to a fine finish.I use it when I repair epoxy boards instead of filler coating (hotcoat). It fills the glass weave.I buy it at the local auto shop in an aerosol can. David.

David,when you say acrylic spray from the auto body shop do you mean acrylic lacquer.In other words is it flammable?If so we call it primer here in the USA and it comes in grey,white,red etc.Just curious,thanks for your input.The big problem around here at times is that folks tend to think that all acrylics are water based. R.B. Yes it is the lacquer/thinners based paint.Water based acrilic paints are used very little anymore over here.David.
