I have been toying with the idea of using Polypropylene beads that are used as unskid of boat decks as a slip check type traction on one of my boards. I have been repainting my boat part of the job is recoating the unskid areas. I have used polypropylene beads in the pas and they make a good non skid surface that is easy on bare feet. The thing about this is that the beads can be mixed into paint and or resin or applied by sprinkling them onto wet paint then when dry apply a light coat over the beads. It should be a lot lighter then bulky ugly deck pads. You could even get creative with it by using stencils. As soon as it stops railing here I'll do a board and post results.
In the mean time has anyone else used them for traction?
I had some of that peel and stick traction that was textured. Tore my knees to shreds. I had to peel it off. I would say boat non skid finishes are a no go, unless you’re going to SUP with booties…
The beads are a lot softer then the stick on traction tape. My intention is to place the beads on the tail over fins like the kick pads and on the nose like slipchek. Mid section would use whatever wax is hasn't melted on my dashboard. I will report in when the rain winds and tornado warning are over. 10 inches of rail yesterday! Thank you tropical storm Debby
