Aloha, Can anyone give me any advise on where to get Polystyrene Foam for making a Poly\Epoxy board I think I might try one as a project.Just what I need Then it will be 8 boards in this apartment… Are there different “Weights” as in regular foam boards ? Also is there some special type to get ? I have read where the foam “Pellets” can be different sizes… Thanks Don J.
If you can locate a manufacturer in your area, that will be the best source because they can supply you with a LARGE block that you can hotwire into blanks. If not you might need to glue together pieces of 4’x2’x4" like I did. As for pellet size, smaller is better IMHO. If you have different brand to choose from try each and see how consistent the density is throughout the block. Some billets I’ve had have had areas where the pellets are barely bonded together which will leave you with a really uneaven surface after shaping and be frustrating to sand. The new EDRO foam that Greg mentioned sounds promising too. Weightwise I think they’re all pretty lightweight. Good luck! regards, Håvard
Don, Where are you located?
Aloha Greg L. I am in Jupiter FL, have also contacted you about making the copy of the board Steve Seebold is making me right now as you can do it in epoxy with EPS foam … But if I would like to try to make one myself just as a project would you know where to look for the foam?? I realize especally after looking at this Forum that it is’nt so easy but still might like to try to make one …maybe a Tanker size Longboard… Thanks Don
