Polystyrene

Hey Guys

I don’t know if this stuff will be OK but I have found a source of polystyrene foam.

I don’t know if it is EPS or not because I haven’t use EPS as yet. Still researching.

Anyway, Some friends of mine work for a freight company and have aircraft pallets arrive dayly.

They have these blocks of polystyrene around 9ft x 24-26" x about 6" that is used as packing material.

Now as I dont know much about polystyrene, how will I know if it will be OK for shaping and how will I know what density it will be.

I had a quick look and the little beads seemed to be about 1/16 to 1/8 in size.

What else should I look for???

Cheers

look for place to store it next to your work space.

…ambrose…

then look for a variac

then look for some nicad wire

then look for wood to make the harp

then look for some masonite

to make runner profiles

then look for some free time.

your free time will be over.

…ambrose…

Huh???

he says start shaping it!

a list of things to look for.

…ambrose…

the question was ‘‘what else should I look for?’’

these are things to look for.

Righto.

So I gather it will be OK then.

How can I tell what density it is???

Cheers

density = weight / volume

get a scale…do the math…

You must’ve finished your shed mate, you seem like you’re itchin to pump out a board!. Let us know how it goes.

Hey Mark

Not quite

Pools almost done and shed is about half done.

Work on the pool when its sunny and the shed when its raining.

And yes, I’m itchin to get some boards done.

Haven’t used epoxy yet, but doing a lot of research.

Have you used it???

Cheers

PS: Its pretty early. You must be at work too, hey.

Never used it mate, i like the idea of glassing with no smell though!. Im not at work, my 18 month old daughter decided to scream frantically at 5am!!!. Just got back from checking the surf, nothing, not even a waist high wave. That sucks, my 4 days off, and all i did was paint. Next roster i hope to get some waves, even waist high would be better than none!!

I know exactly how you feel.

Well, you know what I’v been doing on my days off.

We nead to get a SUP board for conditions like this.

Evan just to paddle up and down the beach.

That is something I will be looking into as soon as I get up and running again.

That’s the main reason for all my EPS/epoxy enquiries.

Anyway. at least you painted when there was no surf.

Cheers
