Does anyone own one of those new Carbon Fiber boards 9’6 Yater Steath by Pope Bisect or Hydro Epoch. How does it surf? Do you need to add balast to weigh the board down? Is it really tough? Just curious
I’ve seen and held the prototype. Karl was able to beat the board w/ a 2x4 while on the parking lot. The bisect will add some weight. They are up there in price, and who knows what the retail price will be? To squelch some of the critics, they are made in the U.S.A. I also know of some more models on the way from some really great shapers who worked some hard hours on the plugs. Call the Popes; I think they have an 800 number.
Eastpacific is right - Wayne Rich and Yater both have new Bisect models in addition to the 6’10" swallow tail thruster and 9’6" Yater already in the lineup. No dealers - you contact them direct. The carbon bisect boards are about $1800. I was told that they will be outsourcing a type of construction similar to Tuflite and they expect those to be under a grand.
Meeting w/ Wayne Rich the last couple of days I had an interesting hands on look at the new hollow 9’ 0” single to double concave carbon fiber Hollowfoil board that was Bi-sected, . It’s one of his “Pro Modified” models. The Bisect keeps the weight on the light side of normal for a high performance longboard. I’d say it was 13 pounds or so. We took it a part and put in the padded board bag that comes w/ the unit. If the airlines don’t charge for these 4’ bags, I’d say that the thing will pay for itself in number of trips. All in all, a beautiful mold, and very exacting. No ballast necessary. Wayne’s been surfing his…he seemed pretty stoked .
On the hollow bisect, is there any chance of leakage or expansion due to temp? Anyone know about chance of lighter colors in the future as the dark model seems to be a bad idea south of the arctic…
No, no expansion, leakage problems from heat. It’s the same technology as fighter aircraft wings. I think Black’s the only color. Maybe I’ll be able to barrow it for Big Sur----------------------------------------------------------------
