They’re from Japan so it’s impossible to get them “cheap”. But you can get them from Foam-Ez of course. http://foamez.com/store/products.cfm?subCategory=50

Yes they are hard to find, and as far as getting them cheap, good luck! I don’t know where you live, no info in your profile, but Rhino Art in Encinitas has a good selection, Steve.

Has anybody had experience with using Posca pens directly on the blank or on the glass before the final glass coat? Any issues with paint running or tips on what can be done to avoid paint running issues?

As you can probably gather, I want to lay down a paint pen design but I want to get a layer of protection over the top of it rather than have it directly on the outside layer of the board.

Best used on sanded hotcoat, gloss resin will not make the pen ink run, it is water based! You can also spray Krylon clear matt or gloss finish on hotcoat over thae posca pens, Steve.

yes i have done that applying the pen right to the foam it worked fine for me in the past. a posca pen is not your only option there are several companies out there that make a water based marker. i get mine from michales and its like 3 to 4 bucks for one single marker. i think i saw a 6 pack of markers for like 15 or 20. there isnt really a way around it they arent cheap like regular markers.

do you simply draw on a finished board and spray it over with something? what do you do?

After you apply the Posca pen you should spray a clear acrylic paint over it so it will stay on.

So why couldn’t you use crayola markers? They’re water based.

The important thing about Posca and Zig pens is that they use pigment instead of ink.

Most inks fade very quickly in sunlight.

Deathfrog is on the right track Crayola is the way to go; but use crayons. They’re wax and can go right on the hot or gloss coat then wax over top. You can change your board graphics when ever you like. This could be a new marketing strategy. Get Crayola to make some surf branded (your label) crayons and package them with some stencils on every new board you sell.

Did you ever check ebay or amazon they might have them there

Do you need to spray anything over them if you want them to stay?

Hey Ive found a place in Hawaii that sells them individually, so if you dont need all of the colors in the set it will be alot cheaper http://www.hawaiiangraphics.com/#Uni-Posca

I havent been down there to look at the prices yet, Ill go tommrow if I have time. I remember them in art stores when I was younger also.

Does anybody know where you can get Posca pens or equivalent n Australia?

Go to google. type in posca pens. hit “i feel lucky”. first result is a place in australia. Amazing thing, that google, huh?
