Possible huge mistake.....Help needed

Im in the middle of building two HD EPS boards and came across the fact the 1lbs density EPS remains spongy even after glassing. Ive searched on past post but nothing is very certian on the topic. Is there a problem with using 1lbs EPS or am I screwed and have to scrap two finished blanks??? Any help would be awsome or links to the answer would be great, Thanks.

By the way both contain 1/4" wooden stringers down the center

3 layers 6 oz. top, 2 layers 6 oz. bottom. You may need to add glass if you did less than that.

Glassing Schedules:

Greg Loehr – Thursday, 5 February 2004, at 12:05 p.m.

2# EPS - Use one layer 6 or 2 layers of 4 bottom… Use 2 layers 6 or 3 layer 4 deck.

1.5# EPS - Use one 4 and one 6 oz for bottoms… Use two 4 and a 6 for the deck.

1# EPS - use two 6 bottom… three 6 deck.

These are minimums. For strength, go up from there.

Dave,

This is form Rob Ogilies epoxy construction primer in the resource section. If you haven’t read it check it out. It will save you a lot of headaches. If you’ve already glassed the boards with less ride em. Dents don’t mean they won’t surf. I’ve got a 1# EPS galssed with double 6 top and bottom that is still going after 8 years.

Davel I finnished my HD board last month. 9’6" with a 2" blue XPS T band. 1/8" plywood on each side. The XPS is from Lowe’s. I did the bottom with 4oz and 6oz. Top 2 layers of 6oz.And a 6oz deck patch. The top still felt soft so I added another 4oz deck patch. The epoxy will harden up more in the next week or so.I’m 215lbs and have surfed my board with out heel denting it.It did take more glass and epoxy then I wanted. The XPS gased twice as much as the EPS. So I’m going back to EPS.Hope this is some help to you. Gordon

Hey thanks everyone for the info, I haven’t glassed yet but ill be sure to put in a larger order for more fabric to make up for it. The 8’ ill definitly go with the 3 up top and 2 on the bottom but with the 7’2", should it be the same or maybe less material could be used? Thanks again Dave
