Post a pic of someone doing an Air from 1968 :-)

Yes it is .

None of us could even turn this board , it would just slide out

I doubt todays best could  ride it  :-)

He had Surfer Cover shot from this time doing the same .  :-)

" Is it one of your friends? ???"

Roger was my surfing partner then .

Captain Obvious here, but kicking out is not an aerial. Getting launched by backwash is not an aerial. An attempt without a landing is not an aerial. Greg likes to play with people.

Thats sad . :frowning:

Design  is the most important part of a surfboard , you should practice that then material builds .

Kevin Reed 1975 On his way to do an early “air” he was known for , not a Kickout

Same as Roger in 1968

All the doubters can’t change these events .

No games being played as accused on a " moderated" Surfing  forum - just interesting information .

What’s that board? It looks fun.

Here is a surfer airborne. I’m not sure on the exact date but it was, I believe a centrespread in either Surfer or Surfing, and was taken by Steve Wilkings probably early 70s. The surfer is Sean Ross.  One hint about the vintage is the lack of high rise on the Honolulu/Waikiki shoreline.

Bob

How many early air innovators are still doing them?  Kech is.  http://xgames.espn.go.com/surfing/article/5335676/kech-pilot-pioneer

So far no one has posted what I asked for  :-)

Rodger and Kevin both ripped, Rodger less flamboyant then Kevin

They were both hella fun to watch at their peak

putting on the show for the every present peanut gallery on the cliffs above

and when those perfect direction swells hit the reefs with size, what a show it is

as Santa Cruz turns into California’s version of the 7 Mile Miracle

Roger stopped surfing in 1972

Where were you ? And how old are you ? Lots of fun things to share of this time .

So far you haven’t either.  If you’ve got a picture of someone doing an air in the 60s please post it.

65, non-stop since 1962, grew up surfing Pedro Point, OB, weekend trips to SC.  Once I got my drivers license at 16, was surfing in SC at least 50 days a year, whever the swell was too big for up north, or the bigger souths were stacking.

You know someone was there back in the day when they remember Otto and his shop monkey a few blocks from Cal’s…

Tom Ostrander riding his Con Ugly at Princeton break water .

Thats pretty back in the day .

What were the spots in SC you surfed most  ?

Joe Norton @ California Surfers, ring a bell with anyone?      He was a ‘‘dealer’’ for Surf Systems, back in the day.      Most popular SS board was the ‘‘Santa Cruz’’  model.        Basically a mini gun.       Sold a lot of them to guys in Hawaii too.     That template was the basis for the first 18 boards I did on contract for Lightning Bolt, when they launched, and the basis for their subsequent boards in those early years.

My friend Brian riding a downrail I made him in 1969 at Sharks cove .

Kenny Tilton was making these then at Tilton - Sultzer surfboards in Santa Cruz and was the inspiration for this board .

knew Tommy “pissbag” Ostrander, talented surfer who passed way too early, for a while he lived in the red house across the field from the breakwater…  yea, him on the Con Ugly at the breakwater, no wetsuit, fast scramble to toes on the nose, a good cutback as well for the day…

the Lane and First Peak at PP during LB days, after the ‘revolution’ Natural Bridges, Mitchells , Moss Landing, reefs north of town, everything between OB and Moss Landing was my playground for decades.

The 60’s in Norcal were hella fun, a  time when you could drive from Pacifica to SC on Hwy 1, maybe pass a surfer or two on the way, waved at each other, looked for the ‘surf report’ thumbs up or down, and usually got it…

Well I don’t have a friggin’ pic;  but within five minutes of eating one of those refried burritos at “Romero’s Fiesta”; I was doing air all the way out Thompson and southbound on 101.  Let’s see probably 1965 or so.

I knew you would like that .

Pissbag  - an ugly concept

I was a team rider for Joe and had a Santa Cruz Model .

Then a Haut speed shape under George Olsons label .

Then Haut under his , then a young shaper .

Joe called me in 1985 at T&C and said I should come back  , a real nice guy .
