What oz and type cloth are you guys using for your epoxy tints?
i used fibergalss hawaii’s opaque on my last board with 6oz. i didnt do a test panel and failed to mix it opaque enough to cover the stringer. does the cloth weight affect the color saturation at all? i can see the epoxy saturating 4oz more easily but idk if itd affect the hue
The answer is No. it just looks different. I tint 4oz. all the time and get it plenty opaque. Most glassers like to tint six oz. because they like the way it looks. It is a subtle difference in look compared to 4oz. The pigments I use are Duratech. I can get them opaque enough just by adding more pigment. Otherwise a little white helps opaque. If you do add white pigment you will have to add even more of your desired color as white tends to Pastel your color. I haven’t kept up with what Fiberglass Hawaii sells these days, but they used to sell "Pigments " and “Tints”. Two different things. You will never get a tint to go opaque without adding white and then it will become a Pastel(ie Easter egg).
