Post-Modern Single-Fin "Dissect" Build.

So. I glued and shaped this board before my trip to Boise Id. in May.

Finally finished in Aug.

I call these “Dissects”.

As in that frog in Biology class.

This board is 13 pieces glued together.

Glue lines are black glue.

Hand glued this thing (Twice). Once for the straight center strips, then again for the Curved rails.

6’1" x 20.5" x 2.75" Wing-Pin.

Rolled nose to slight concave to panel Vee with a little double concave around fin.

Center strip is a Extruded Poly-foam with stringer. Saved from a previous project.

“E-wings”.

I painted the rails to match the center color. (The extruded foam is naturally a Tan-ish color)

Made the fin from High-density sheet foam/fiberglass sandwich construction. Glass-on.

Black pinline is resin.

Glossed, but not yet polished.

I’ve been doing this WPF (wide point forward) thing a lot lately. Wide point is forward 3".

Tris, Quads, Bonzers, now single-fins. Super versatile shape.

Some more on my site if interested.

If you do not mind saying, what did you use to glue the center foam strips together?

Nice board.

Oh, I’ve been working on this glue thing since 1992.

Loose lips sink ships. HAHA!

Kinda my secret sauce.

Sorry.

Bitchen.

wow that looks so fun , personal board ?

Understood.

I keep several secrets also.

Then play on

Inspiring, simply beautiful.

Love it.

Hi Barry -

Super nice.  Until a person tackles gluing up a blank haven't have a clue.  The guys who do it at the blank factories deserve way more credit than they get - which is basically NO CREDIT AT ALL!)

Work of art. I would love to ride that.

cheers

rich

Barry,

Would you tell us how far up the fin is and why you chose that location? I’m building a 6-0 single. Much different template, tho. Mike

Rooster,

That fin is 6.5" tall. It sits at 5.5" from tail.

I’ve been observing some peoples modern single fin boards,

and noticed that most push their fins as far back as possible.

Probably for more drive.

Watch Rusty’s single fin video.

Josh Kerr’s board, the fin is all the way back in the box.

This board is meant to be surfed from the tail.

The one I built myself works so good.

Yeah, gluing foam is no easy feat. One straight line is enough.

Try thirteen to twenty glue lines.

Then throw in some some curves to mix things up.

I do enjoy doing it though.

Thanks for all the complements.

Barry. boards look sick. Great work…
