Power Cord Managment

I’m helping a buddy set up his shaping room. One thing we are discussing is hanging the power cord along with the vacuum attachment to keep it out of the way. I’ve been thinking of a single cable above the shaping stands with a pulley with the cord attached there to give a better range of movement. Anyone ever done anything like that? Any suggestions (wise or unwise) at all would be appreciated.

I’ve not done it, but I’ve seen: shorten your planer cord to about 4". Get one of those extension cords that’s coiled like an old telephone cable. Wrap extension cord around vac hose…both go up together.

Too funny…

I did this just this weekend…

I shape in the basement; low ceilings to begin with. I’m 6’2"…ceiling is around 6’3".

There is a water pipe that runs directly above where I have my stand set up.

Used a coat hanger; ran vaccuum extension line along with planer power cord/extension through three loops along the water pipe that allowed for easy extension without too much cord hanging down to interfere with work. Fashioned a little hook also out of coat hanger, also on the pipe, to place the planer on when it was time to pick up the sanding block. Picture doesn’t show the multiple loops as well as it could, but it does show my first set of fins ever… :D!

Works great;

now I always know where the tools are when I need’em and they’re outta

the way when I don’t. We’ll see how long the landlady let’s me keep it

there though…shared basement now coated in some sweet EPS snow…in

June no less ;).
