hey, I’m going to be glassing a board for the first time… I picked up a milwaukee 0-6000 for pretty cheap. my question is, what type of pads should I use? do I have to get “power pads” which are more expensive? or can I get normal foam backing pads as seen on fiberglasssupply.com? is there any difference? also, what size… 6’’ or 8’’ or both? and what hardness… soft, med, or hard or all? PLEASE somebody fill me in, please. thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
Sean, I use blue(hard) power pad with 100 grit, yellow(med) power pad with 180, and the soft 6" foam pad for 220 and finer grits. If I only had one pad it’d probably be the yellow one. If I may offer another one or two cents worth, If your just learning to use the milwaukee, dont go near the rails (hand sand). If it skips across the flats check real close for wheel marks. -Rick
The 6" power pad is cool because you can cut 2 discs out of one sand paper sheet. But the bigger one saves time esp on large boards. Keep it level and get used to it with high grits like 220 or even 400 if you’ve never used one. That will make you some error and time space. The 80grit tends to move alot of material at any speed and makes it hard to practice.Good luck
I used to use power pads but changed to EEZER sanding pads they’re half the price don’t skip are lighter, flatter and last longer they are around 1/4" thick and I use the 8" pad, it’s the quickest.I also use a very soft foam pad for the rails also in 8" both are made in the states so they shouldn’t be too hard to find.
